This course is designed for anyone owning, operating or thinking of buying a tractor.

The course will cover the following –

 

The tractor –

Principles of operation, engine, fuel system, electrics, gearbox, hydraulics, hitching points

We will do a basic lube and filter service on a small tractor along with looking at the details on how the various parts function.

What to look for if various parts don’t work.

Preventative maintenance and safe operating practices.

Tools required for basic maintenance and fault finding.

Basic electrical fault finding, batteries and charging,

Tyres and pressures.

Oils and grades.


We do not teach you how to drive a tractor but will show you how the parts work.


Summary and Questions

The course is delivered by Ian Dixon, Dash member of over 20 years and farmer near Okehampton. Ian has a lifetime experience restoring, maintaining and operating old tractors and machinery having grown up on the family farm. In his spare time he also works repairing quad bikes, lawnmowers and chainsaws at Northmoor Garden Machinery in Hatherleigh.
