134 Smallholding 'Taster' Course
953-134:Saturday 29th February 2020 (10am - 1pm)
Venue: Farrantshayes Farm, Clyst Hydon, Cullompton, Devon EX15 2NQ
Cost: £26
Tutor: Emma Hillier

The course will cover the following:

The very first DASH taster course will take place at Farrantshayes Farm in East Devon, just minutes from the M5. Emma and Jon Hillier (both DASH committee members) bought this former commercial farm in 2016 and now run it as a smallholding alongside their day jobs. You will get the chance to cover the basics of paperwork for cattle, pigs and sheep as well as take a tour of the farm and meet their Devon Ruby cattle, pedigree herd of woolly Mangalitsa pigs famed for their charcuterie (one of only 26 herds in the country) Welsh Badger Faced sheep and horses. We can answer questions on fencing, feeding, setting up your smallholding, taking animals to the abattoir and general animal husbandry. Tea, biscuits and endless opportunities to laugh at and learn from our mistakes totally free of charge. Even if smallholding is just a dream at this stage, come along anyway- it might be a cheap way of putting you off!

The venue is in East Devon: Farrantshayes Farm, Clyst Hydon, Cullompton, Devon, EX15 2NQ

Most of our courses are aimed at adults and are quite intensive, so they are not aimed at children. If you would like to bring a child on a course please discuss it with the training manager before booking. It is assumed that bookings you make are for adults. Only people who have paid the course fee are allowed at the training venue. Do not bring pets or other animals to the training venue unless you are required to do so as part of the course. Most venues are working smallholdings and dogs or other animals (even if left in your car) are disruptive and compromise biosecurity.
